Victoria – Port disruption during peak season

VICT Webb Dock Picket Line Continues

No Containers Moving In/Out since Sunday – VICT Launching Injunction Action in the Supreme Court

A ‘Community Protest’ Picket Line of MUA & CFMEU members has blocked the gates at VICT since 5am Monday. The protest is in response to VICT’s decision to let go a casual worker found to be ineligible for a Maritime Security Identification Card. (MSIC)

  • Vehicles have been prevented from accessing the terminal
  • VICT employees are being held back from working by the MUA.
  • Picketers had superglued the terminal gates which have since been unglued and the gates remain open for business, but no vehicles are passing through
  • The Glasgow Express has been in port since Sunday and is midway through unloading imports and loading exports
  • Perishables in refrigerated containers are ‘on power’
  • VICT has IRS International refrigeration specialists permanently located at the terminal and their technicians have been allowed to enter the terminal to maintain containers and safety
  • VICT has dismissed the ‘Community Protest’ as an illegal picket line by the unions and intends to lodge an application for an injunction in the Supreme Court to remove the illegal picket line. VICT will request an urgent hearing by tomorrow
  • VICT CEO, Anders Dømmestrup has been quoted in the DCN that VICT will be pursuing damages against the Unions involved. “We would predict damages easily in excess of $100m through harm to our reputation and threat to our commercial prospects in the market, as well as lost revenues and severely undermining our business projections,” he said.
  • AFIF has raised with VICT the ‘Storage clock’ be suspended until the terminal is operating normally
